IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alan Roy
Anthony
November 2, 1950 – July 23, 2020
Alan Roy Anthony, 69, passed away in the early hours of July 23 rd from cancer.
Alan was born on November 2, 1950 in Bethesda, Maryland to Roy B. Anthony and Virginia B. Anthony. The family moved to Sterling, Virginia in the late 1950's and became lifelong Loudoun County residents. Alan graduated from Loudoun County High School in 1969 and attended Old Dominion University and Georgia Southern University. He was drafted into the Army and served a year in Vietnam. Upon his return to the States, he used his interest in cars and became a top-rated ASE mechanic. After several years, he was promoted to General Manager of Herndon Automotive and held that position until his retirement four years ago. Throughout the years, Alan was an avid coin collector and amassed an impressive collection of Early American Colonial coins, specializing in the Virginia Halfpenny. He collaborated and contributed on Numismatic research, articles, and books and was happiest talking coins with his collector friends.
Alan is preceded in death by both parents. He is survived by his brother Wayne C. Anthony; his wife of 41 years Kathy Anthony; sister-in-law Peggy Martin; and niece Cheryl Smith. While there will be no formal service, the family asks any donations be made to your local area Hospice organization.
