Amanda J. Gibbons, age 54, passed away peacefully in her home in Alexandria, Virginia on November 25, 2025.
Born on April 18, 1971, in Minnesota, Amanda was a cherished daughter to Judith & Michael Gibbons, and a devoted sister to Elizabeth Fidler (Cameron) and Michelle Lopez (Juan). Amanda was a passionate advocate of the underdog, working tirelessly for underserved communities and volunteering for children’s organizations.
Upon graduation from Notre Dame Academy in Park Hills, Kentucky, Amanda went on to receive her bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky. She then began her life of service as a Peace Corps volunteer in Nicaragua. After finishing her tour with the Corps, she completed her Master’s in Public Health and PhD in Epidemiology from John’s Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Amanda went on to work in various African countries in the field of HIV/AIDS research, care, and treatment. She also volunteered her time as a Board Member for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate).
Amanda will be remembered for her fierce determination, fearless sense of adventure, and deep love for her family, her friends, and her dogs. In addition to her parents and sisters, she is survived by her niece McKenzie and nephews Michael, Zachary, and Benjamin.
