Amos Charles Good
On Saturday, September 16, 2023, Amos Charles Good, 93, passed into the presence of his savior, Jesus Christ.
Amos was born in Elizabethtown PA on November 17, 1929, to Raymond and Mary Good. Amos attended Elizabethtown High School and excelled in baseball, going 14-0 in his senior year. After graduation in 1947 he attended Bob Jones University in Greenville SC for two years. In 1951 Amos enlisted in the Air Force and was selected for pilot training in 1952. On June 21, 1953, after all of three dates, Amos married Josephine (Jo) Bixler of Lancaster PA, which began a wonderful 70-year marriage. They had met through the ministry of Youth for Christ in Lancaster.
In November of 1953 Amos was assigned to the 318th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at McChord AFB in Tacoma WS where he flew the F-86D fighter jet. While stationed there they welcomed their first child, Robert, into their lives.
Amos separated from the Air Force in June of 1956 and the family moved to Winona Lake IN to attend Grace College where they welcomed their second son into the world, Jeffrey.
After graduating from Grace College, Amos and Jo then moved to Arlington VA in 1962 where he began his career at the Pentagon. During this time, they welcomed their daughter Letitia (Tish) into the world. Amos retired in 1987 after serving as the Administrative Assistant to the Chairman - Joint Chiefs of Staff.
While living in Arlington Amos and Jo began a long and devoted life of service at Cherrydale Baptist Church. He served as director of music and chairman of the deacon board. They left Cherrydale in 1995 to help start Christ Community Church in Ashburn VA.
Amos continued to enjoy sports as he took up golf and got his first Hole-In-One at 83 years old.
It was during these years in Arlington and Falls Church that Amos started to volunteer with Pioneers Mission Agency. Amos had a deep love and concern for people all over the world to hear about Jesus Christ. He and Jo made several international trips to serve and support their friends in this work.
And in the midst of all these areas of interest and work the defining mark of Amos' life was his deep love for Jesus Christ, the Bible, and his family.
