On Sunday , September 24th, Amy, of South Riding VA gave up her courageous fight against cancer and passed peacefully to the Lord. She was surrounded by her loving husband of 12 years, Jason Miller and her two adoring children, Audrey Ellen and William (Liam) Joseph. She is also survived by her parents Jon and Mary Ellen Leachtenauer of Charlottesville,VA, her Aunts Patricia Booth and Ann Leachtenauer, Uncle Richard Harris, cousins Renee Griffith, Stephanie Best, Christine Rodriguez, ,Karen Gorirossi, Eileen Groves, and Andrew Daniloff.
Amy was born on April 13 th 1979 in Washington DC. She grew up in Annandale VA , was a graduate of W.T. Woodson High School and received her B.A. degree in Sociology from Mary Washington College. She began work in the Fairfax County Department of Family Services in 2002. She worked for several years as a Child Care Specialist, managing a caseload of child care providers and day care centers. In the last five years, she worked as an employment case manager for the VIEW program. She was active in the PTA at Hutchinson Farms ES and the South Riding Mothers Run The Town (MRTT) running group. She was a loving daughter and wife and a devoted mother. She loved decorating for every holiday and encouraging her children in whatever they wished to try. She will be sadly missed by those whose life she has touched including her Fairfax County Department of Family Services co-workers, members of the South Riding MRTT, the Brass Alley Babes, her wine club, and many others.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Theresa's Catholic Church at 21370 St Theresa Lane in Ashburn VA at 1:00 on September 29th. It will be followed by interment at Church or Our Saviour, 1170 Rio Rd East , Charlottesville VA at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 30th. Family visitation will be from 6 to 8PM on September 28th at the Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd NE, Leesbug VA. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Amy's name to Life with Cancer, 8411 Pennell St., Fairfax VA, 22301.
