IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Anita Brown
Reppert
October 8, 1962 – February 22, 2025
Anita Brown Reppert of Leesburg, VA, passed away peacefully at her home on February 22, 2025. She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Bill Reppert, and their two children, Rachel and Jack Reppert. Anita was the youngest of five siblings and is survived by her brothers, Raymond Brown of Columbia, South Carolina; Richard Brown of Cary, North Carolina; and Dale Brown of Columbia, South Carolina; as well as her sister, Phyllis Peterson of Cleveland, Tennessee. She was predeceased by her parents, Mervin and Miriam Brown of Columbia, South Carolina. Anita leaves behind a large community of friends and family that loved her dearly.
Anita was born on October 8, 1962, in Columbia, South Carolina, and spent her childhood in the cities of North, Conway, and Columbia, South Carolina. As the daughter of a Baptist minister, the church was central to her family's life. Anita was a happy and sweet child, growing up in a busy and loving home where something was always going on. She was constantly finding fun and mischief—when she wasn't too busy bringing home new dogs to love. Though her adventurous life took her far from home, her deep roots in South Carolina always kept her connected to family and friends.
Anita attended Lower Richland High School and then North Greenville University on a softball scholarship before enrolling at the University of South Carolina. In 1982, she enlisted in the National Guard and became a commissioned officer upon graduating from the University of South Carolina in 1986 with degrees in Sociology and Criminal Justice. Anita spent 22 years in the Army National Guard, serving as a Tactical Intelligence Officer. In 1990, she answered her nation's call to service and was activated for Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, supporting the Gulf War. She excelled in her military service, serving in Virginia, Maryland, and D.C. Guard units, eventually reaching the rank of Major.
Anita moved to Virginia in 1988 and began working as a defense contractor. It was through work that she met her husband, Bill, in early 1993. Their first date was the day before Valentine's Day. That summer Bill proposed while they were in the Outer Banks, North Carolina and they were married by that November. Anita and Bill enjoyed their early married years and took their first vacations together to Niagara Falls and Toronto, Canada and later England. They were blessed with their first child, Rachel, in 2001, and later adopted their incredible son Jack in 2007, beginning many wonderful years of raising two children who always kept her on her toes. During this time, she also enjoyed a successful career as a Cyber Security Engineer and was fortunate to build a large network of friends and coworkers. In her free time, Anita loved playing with her dog, gardening, connecting with family and friends, and shopping.
Anita retired in 2021, as she began battling what was later diagnosed as Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Bill retired in 2022 to take care of his wonderful wife, and that year the family was able to take a memorable vacation to Kauai. Anita was referred to hospice in the winter of 2023, yet despite the challenges, she and her family were able to take trips to her favorite beach destination – the Outer Banks, North Carolina – in the fall of 2023 and the spring and summer of 2024. Bill and Rachel were honored to be her primary caregivers during this time and the time spent with her will be forever cherished.
Anita was truly one of a kind. Not only was she an incredible mother and wife, but she also embodied what it meant to be a great friend and an even better family member. She will be remembered for being quick-witted, fiery, intelligent, beautiful, funny, tough, and honest, among so many other things. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
