Anna Dillon Brent of Ashburn, VA, died peacefully at home surrounded by family on Palm Sunday, March 24, 2024, at age 83. Anna was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She had a professional career in the beauty industry.
The daughter of Irish parents Aidan and Bridget Dillon, Anna was born in Kilgarvan, County Kerry, Ireland, spending her formative years in a large family with four brothers and three sisters while assisting in her father's hardware/mercantile business. The Dillon household was one of warmth, love, and acceptance where family fidelity was paramount. Anna lived out the Dillon family values forming strong bonds with friends and future coworkers as her career took her to Dublin, London, and Washington, D.C.
In June 1967, she married Dr. John J. Bibb, Jr. and together they had three children, Nicole, John, and Douglas.
In the early 1980's she reentered the beauty industry becoming the Director of Davidson Beauty Supply Company. She opened, staffed, and managed 13 wholesale/retail beauty supply stores in Maryland and Virginia. She was recognized across the beauty industry for outstanding services to the community. She was highly effective in training and managing store staff and managers with a combined staff of 160 employees. She retired from the industry in 1994.
In the early 80's Anna and her children were active members of Columbia Baptist Church. In late 1983 she met her future husband Dickinson T Brent; they were married at Columbia on April 6,1985. Anna and Dick taught and served in Columbia's Sunday School program for 14 years. Beginning in 2000, they worked with McLean Bible Church to establish the Great Falls Fellowship Group, a Bible study and support group. Upon retirement to Sarasota, FL, they formed a similar fellowship group in concert with the Church of the Palms.
Anna kept busy during her retirement years in church activities, gardening, and supporting her extended family of six children and nine grandchildren. Anna was known by her friends for her hospitality, service to others, and organizing community fellowship groups.
Anna is survived by husband Dickinson, two children: Nicole and Douglas; three stepdaughters Leslie Brent Dickemann of Annandale, VA, Lisa Brent Hugman of Austin, TX, Christine Polly Massey of Oklahoma City, OK; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild; her brother Richard Dillon and sisters, Bridget Dillon Phillips, and Melda Dillon Hoskins. She is preceded in death by her son, John. In Anna's memory, donations can be made to the Church of the Palms, 3224 Bee Ridge Rd., Sarasota, FL 34238 with notation: "Anna Dillon Brent Memorial."
A memorial service will be held for Anna on April 6, 2024, at 1:00 PM, the Chapel, Columbia Baptist Church, Falls Church, VA.
