Anna E. Craig
Anna Elizabeth (nee Costello) Craig, 87, of Ashburn, Loudon County, Virginia, died Thursday, September 5 at her home at Ashby Ponds, Ashburn, VA. She was known to one and all as "Nancy."
Mrs. Craig was born in 1925 in Washington, DC, daughter of the late Martin J. Costello and Mary Jane Boyle Costello, both from Ireland. She was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy of Washington, DC. She was a homemaker who worked part-time in a medical office for many years before retiring. She was an avid gardener, reader, walker and traveler, no matter how near or far. She had traveled to Ireland twice to meet relatives and kept in close correspondence with all. Nancy was devoted to her family, especially to the littlest great grandchildren.
Her husband, William R. Craig, whom she married in June, 1945, preceded her in death in November, 1989.
Surviving her are four daughters, Maureen (Wallis), Gamble of Denver, CO, Donna C. Bruce of Williamsburg, VA, Joanne (Kevin) Drumheller of Lovingston, VA, and Margaret Stewart of Baldwin, MD and one son, Michael (Grace) Craig of Leesburg, VA. She is survived by six grandchildren, Craig Gamble of Osaka, Japan, and Ryan Gamble of Denver, CO, Christinia Gutshall of Round Hill, VA, William Craig of Stephens City, VA, Charles Craig of Leesburg, VA, and Valarie Garappolo of Middle River, MD. There are also six great grandchildren, William, Michael and Mary Gutshall, Ashlyn Craig, and Aiden and Meia Garappolo. Nancy is survived by one sister, Margaret (Leonard) Stone of Rockville, MD. Her brothers John F., James B., Martin J., William P. and Thomas N. preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends on Monday, Sept. 9, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Road NE, Leesburg, VA.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 am on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at St Theresa's Catholic Church, 21370 St. Theresa Lane, Ashburn, VA.
A graveside service is scheduled at Arlington National Cemetery on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 starting at 1:00 pm. All attending should meet at the Administration Building by 12:30 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
