Obituary

Beloved wife and mother, Antoinette P. Bruder (83) passed away on September 1, 2011 after a long battle with pneumonia.

Born Antoinette Cione on May 15th, 1928 in Sharon, PA, Antoinette lived through many of America's recent historical events – the Great Depression, World War II, the Kennedy Assassinations, the Walk on the Moon, the Civil Rights Movement, the Tearing Down of the Berlin Wall, and the 911 Attacks. She moved to Washington, D.C. in the mid 1960s after years of caring for her mother in PA to become a civilian secretary for the Navy at the Pentagon. Antoinette, or "Toni" as she was known to family and friends, typed the Cuban Missile Crisis brief for President Kennedy. She told her daughter she was upset when they didn't give her a chance to proof it before the presentation.

At a singles dance at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Washington, D.C. she met Edward Bruder. They went on dates such as visiting Ocean City, MD where Toni ate her first lobster. Ed and Toni married on February 6, 1965 and Toni delivered a daughter, Susan, in 1966. They settled in Rockville, Maryland in the same house for the next 45 years. She and her husband moved to Meadow Glen Assisted Living in Leesburg, VA in 2010 to be near their daughter and her family. At Meadow Glen she was lovingly cared for by the staff lead by Jamie Riley with the help of Abie, Judy, Timeka, Jessica, and the rest of the medical team and her care giver, Michelle.

Toni ,or "Mama Bruder" as her son-in-law called her, loved dogs, small children, going to garage sales with her daughter, butterflies, home improvement projects, researching family history, and most of all – her family. In a day of ready made wear, Toni was an avid quilter, painter, and seamstress. She was a feisty, "tell it like it is" lady with a heart of gold.

She is survived by and will always be in the hearts of her husband, Ed, her daughter Susan, son-in-law John, and step grandchildren Betsy and Jonathan – all of Leesburg, VA.

A prayer service for Toni will be held at 10 am on Saturday September 3rd at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Road, NE, Leesburg, Virginia 20176 with the burial immediately following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery 13801 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring, MD 20906.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Montgomery County Maryland, 14645 Rothgeb Drive, Rockville, MD 20850 or Friends of Homeless Animals at P.O. Box 415, Aldie VA 20105.
