Arnold "Arnie" Urban Hurst, 96, of Leesburg, Virginia, formerly of Middletown, Ohio, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2025. Born on June 18, 1929 in Jasper, Indiana to Gilbert and Anna Hurst, Arnie lived a long, full, and joyful life defined by family, friendship, and faith.
A 1948 graduate of Jasper High School, Arnie began his life of service and dedication by joining the U.S. Army in June of 1951. He proudly served as a a radio operator during the Korean War, earning the Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal before receiving his honorable discharge in 1953 and later from the Army Reserves in 1957.
In 1953, Arnie married the love of his life, Rose Ann Krampe, with whom he shared a lifetime of laughter and devotion. Together, they raised their son, Curt Alan Hurst. After completing his education at Lain Drafting College in 1955, Arnie began a career that would take him from Reynolds Aluminum in Louisville, Kentucky--where he obtained his first patent--to Magnode Corporation in Trenton, Ohio, where he served as a manufacturing engineer and manager.
A lifelong Catholic, Arnie remained active in parish life wherever he lived, from Richmond, Virginia to Middletown, Ohio. In retirement, he found great joy in traveling--visiting Alaska, Hawaii, Tahiti, Europe, and countless U.S. cities--always happiest when surrounded by family, grandchildren, and a good dessert. His smile was brightest by the family pool or during his famous bourbon toasts among friends.
Arnie is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rose Ann; his siblings, Sylvester, Mary Ann, And Virginia; as well as his parents. He is survived by his son, Curt; his grandchildren, Lauren and Cameron; and his great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Visitation will be held at Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, Virginia on October 20th, 2025 from 6-8 PM. Services in Ohio will be handled by Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home of Middletown with a Mass of Christian Burial to take place at St. John's Catholic Church on October 27th.
Arnie would expect smiles on your faces while enjoying time spent with family and friends. We will lift a glass of bourbon in his honor.
