IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Audrey Brown
Mcintosh
December 19, 1929 – April 4, 2021
Audrey Brown McIntosh was born in the house her father built in Charlotte (Rochester), New York. She was the second daughter of Colin Hall Brown from Western Massachusetts and Karin (Kate) Nelson from Sweden. Audrey attended Charlotte High School where she met her future husband, Jim McIntosh. They began dating after their Senior Class picnic in 1947. Audrey graduated from the University of Rochester School of Nursing. She married her High School sweetheart Jim in 1951. She then worked as a nurse at the Kansas State student health services while Jim completed his architecture degree at K-State.
After graduation, they settled in Brighton and raised their two children. She continued to work as a Registered Nurse for over 50 years. The couple had been married for 47 years, when Jim died in 1998.
Tragedy struck the Brown family when Audrey's mother passed away in 1955. Her widower father, Colin Brown married widow Bernice Weidman in 1957. Audrey was then blessed with an extended family as she gained a brother, Reid Weidman (Arlene) and sister, Arloine Shear (Jim) and their budding families. This blended family has remained very close ever since.
Audrey loved gardening, playing bridge, traveling, sports, her family, and friends. She was an avid sports fan, following her beloved Buffalo Bills and Syracuse basketball teams. Audrey relished working in her gardens and having lots of beautiful flowers. She also enjoyed traveling in the United States and Europe. Highlights would include camping with the family on Cape Cod and the U.S., cruising with Jim to Scandinavia and Russia, participating in a Swedish reunion with Kate Nelson's cousins in Sweden and dogsledding in Iceland.
Audrey was an active University of Rochester alumni and attended all her nursing school reunions. The McIntoshes were long time members at First Baptist Church of Rochester. Audrey lived in Monroe County all her life until a few years ago when she moved to Virginia to be closer to her daughter, Diane.
Audrey was predeceased by her parents, her husband and her sister Janet Brown Stine (and Oscar). She is survived by her two children Steven McIntosh (Lynne) and Diane Hemphill (James), 4 grandchildren: Jim (Nana) and Tim McIntosh; James and Lisa Hemphill; sister-in-law Phyllis Bridwell (John) and numerous McIntosh, Stine, Bridwell, Weidman and Shear nieces and nephews.
