Barbara Ann Marshall

February 14, 1952 – January 7, 2024

Barb passed peacefully at home on the morning of January 7 at the age of 71.  She was born in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, to Donald Marshall and Doris (Beard) Marshall, who preceded her in death.  She is survived by her sister, Cynthia Wylie, and numerous cousins.

Barb graduated from Ursinus College and began her work career as a teacher in Australia.   After a year in Australia, Barb returned to the U.S. to accept a job in the Federal Government on January 17, 1977.  She was a procurement specialist in various Federal agencies, including the Department of the Army, U.S. Geological Survey, Department of the Treasury, The Agency for International Development (A.I.D.), and she ended her career at Department of State.

In her final Federal position at State, she had the opportunity to travel to Central America, Europe, the South Pacific, the Middle East, and Asia to support the U.S. Embassies.  Barb loved to travel and had so many unique experiences.  She went on an African safari, cruised the Nile River to see the Egyptian pyramids, and visited Mount Fuji, to name just a few.

Barb also loved travelling with her sister, Cindy, and long-time friend, Greg.  We made our first trip to Europe in 1986 to visit England.  We returned there many times, and other European trips included Ireland, France, Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, and Portugal.

Barb had a love of animals and volunteered at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah.  She also enjoyed volunteering at the Cascades Library in Sterling.  Disney World was a favorite destination, and she visited twice a year.  One trip involved a backstage tour of the Animal Kingdom, where she was able to interact with the African animals.  Barb was a fan of the Washington Nationals; she was able to attend one of the playoff games in 2019.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Feline Foundation of Greater Washington in Reston, Virginia; and the Homeless Animals Rescue Team (H.A.R.T.), in Fairfax Station, Virginia.

A Celebration of Life will be held in memory of Barb at Riverside Presbyterian Church in Sterling on January 27 at 11:00.  Barb will be interred at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Spring City, Pennsylvania, at a future date.
