Barbara A. Banas

October 5th, 1956- January 12, 2021

Barbara Ann Banas passed into Eternal Life on January 12th, 2021 in Leesburg, Virginia at age 64.

She is survived by daughters Samantha (Stephen) Kopy and Emma Hennerty; grandsons Gabriel and Isaiah Kopy; her sister Nancy (late Stephen) Garlick, and sister in law Joan Banas. She is predeceased by her brother the late Dr. John J. (Joan) Banas Jr. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Barbara was born in Okinawa, Japan to Dr. John and Marie Banas. Shortly after, her family moved to Buffalo, New York where she was raised. She graduated from Niagara University with a degree in Nursing. She later moved to Fairfax, Virginia where she raised her family. She spent most of her adult life as a psychiatric nurse, caring for those who could not care for themselves. She worked at Dominion Hospital in Falls Church for 17 years, many of them as the Nursing Supervisor. She then worked at Kaiser Permanente for 14 years.

Those who knew her described her as brilliant, witty, loving and generous. She was an incredible gift giver and would do anything to make someone else feel loved.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 20th at St. Mary of Sorrows at 10:30 AM. Family and friends are able to view the Mass via live stream, or at a later time via recording at http://Facebook.com/stmaryofsorrows/live
