Benjamin C. Lawrence

August 28, 1930 – February 6, 2021

Benjamin C. Lawrence, 90, of Leesburg, Virginia passed away Saturday, February 6 th .  He is now reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Virginia, his son Ted, and his grandson Tyler Lawrence.  Ben was born in Richmond, Virginia to Percy F. Lawrence and Honora E. Carroll.  Ben is survived by his sons Dan, Mike, Tim (Anita) and his daughter Robin Stewart (Terry).  He is also survived by three grandchildren, Justin Stewart, Britton Stewart, and Tessa Lawrence whom he dearly loved.  His grandchildren called him Dar; a term of endearment that always made him smile.

Ben was a loving husband and father, a devoted friend, a devout Catholic and was passionately involved in his community.  After learning to fly in his early 20's he decided to earn a degree as an air traffic controller, and in 1962 moved his wife and five young children from Newport News, Virginia to Leesburg, Virginia where he began working for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).  He retired after 28 years of service and started a consultation business, The Lawrence Group. Through his community involvement he chaired or was appointed to several town and county projects including Loudoun County Vietnam Memorial, 1976 Bicentennial Committee, Mt. Zion Church Preservation Association and Keep Loudoun Beautiful, to name a few. In 1980 he was named Loudoun Times-Mirror 'Man of the Year'.  He was an active member of the Rotary Club and involved in several historical and preservation societies.  He loved where he lived and was always striving to make the area better without changing its beautiful historical past.  Ben loved to bike ride, travel abroad, writing and enjoyed a cold glass of Guinness or a smooth scotch.  You could always find him at South Street Under or at the Tusky's bar making new friends or enjoying the company of old ones.

A memorial service will be held in May.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ben's memory to the Leesburg Historical Association.

Arrangements made by Colonial Funeral of Leesburg, Virginia.
