Bessie was born in Floyd County, VA.  In the late thirties she moved to Loudoun County to help her oldes t sister and seek employment.  In 1939 she met her husband , and they were married for 68 years until his death in 2007.  In 1977 , they moved to Fancy Gap, VA and enjoyed many years on their farm, raising cattle and tending a big garden. Three years ago , she moved to Fredericksburg to live with her oldest daughter, Marie.

I t's hard to put into words how much she me ant to untold numbers of people. She was a God - fearing woman who loved Jesus but didn't preach . She modeled how to be a true Christian and was a lways willing to help family, friends , and neighbors whom she welcomed into her home with open arms and a big smile.  She never met a stranger and loved to hold babies and make them smile and laugh.  Anyone who visited would be well fed and given a care package or two .  She loved animals, especially her songbirds which she enjoyed watching and feeding.
