Betty J. Johnson passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2015. Betty was 80 years old. Born in Mansfield, Ohio, she was the daughter of Mary (Karl) and John Studer. While a student in high school, she moved with her family to a farm in Crestline, Ohio where she graduated from Crestline High School. After high school, Betty went to work at the National Bank. She later met Oleen Johnson whom she later married in 1956. Together she and Oleen, better known as Johnny, moved to California where Betty worked for the Bank of America. After some time, they moved back to Ohio to be near family. While living in Ohio Johnny was visited many times by his uncle Reed Johnson, owner of the famous Johnson's House of Beef. Reed eventually convinced Betty and Johnny to move to Leesburg, which they did in 1978. Once here, Betty went to work at the F&M Bank. Betty retired from the Bank of America in 1997.
A lover of lighthouses, Betty had an extensive collection. She was an avid reader on the subject as well. In years past Betty and Johnny traveled as far as Oregon visiting lighthouses. During their marriage, they owned three Chihuahuas. During Christmas time each year Betty volunteered with the Salvation Army. On Saturday nights Betty and Johnny could be found out dancing the night away
Betty leaves behind to cherish her memories her husband of more than 59 years, Johnny; sons Steven of Leesburg and Glenn (Stephanie) of Neersville; grandsons Corey and Thomas Johnson; sister Maryann DeGrave of Ohio; and brothers Ronnie (June) Studer and Allen (Carol) Studer. Betty is predeceased by her parents John and Mary STuder and brother Jack Studer.
Family will receive friends at the Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Road NE, Leesburg, VA 20176 on Thursday, June 25, 2015 between 6:00pm and 8:00 pm during which time prayers will be said. A Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 10:30 am at the Sacred Heart Church in Crestline, Ohio where Betty will be laid to rest.
