Betty Ritter Reid (Age 87) of Ashburn,VA and formerly Winchester, VA and Hagerstown, MD passed away on February 20, 2010 at INOVA Loudoun Hospital. Born on January 16, 1923 in York, PA, she was the second daughter of the late Ernest Kurtz Ritter and Grace Perrell Ritter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Russell Raymond Reid, Jr.



She graduated from Martinsburg High School in 1941 and then attended Shepherd College where she became certified to teach school. She taught elementary school in Rockville, MD and Martinsburg, WV for several years and then became a homemaker.



Surviving are her two daughters Julianna Ritter Reid of Hagerstown, MD and Amy Kurtz Hartman of Ashburn, VA, five grandchildren, and her sister Mary Louise Stewart of Martinsburg, WV.



A service will be held on March 5, 2010 at Ashburn Presbyterian Church at 2:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St Jude Hospital (http://www.stjude.org). Arrangements are in the care of Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg, VA.
