Betty Sue Kennedy Townsend, age 88, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025 in Leesburg, VA. She was born on April 14, 1936. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is predeceased by her husband, George Townsend, whom she was married to for 65 years, and her son, Robert Mark Townsend. She is survived by her children, Russel Paul Townsend (Carol, wife) and Katheryn Marie Townsend Powell (Barry, husband); her daughter-in-law, Teresa Townsend; her grandchildren, Shannon Nichole Goss, Rebecca House (Kyle, husband), and Joe Townsend; and her great grandchildren, Madison Renee Goss, Kennedy House, and Jackson House.

Betty was a truly incredible woman who lived life to the fullest. An admirable lady who blazed her own trail with courage and grace. Her strength, tenacity and genuine love for life and its adventures left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. From being a military spouse during tense times, to owning a disco, working for FEMA and having a successful real estate career, she carved her own path and inspired others along the way. With her warm smile and love conversations, she could always show you that anything is possible.

Betty will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, George at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
