Billy Bliss Shetter, 90, passed away on July 16, 2012, at his residence in Leesburg, VA. Born on February 18, 1922 to John W. Shetter, Sr. and Viola Ballenger Shetter, he is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Lou Shetter, of Leesburg, two brothers: John W. Shetter, Jr. of Summit Point, WV and Cordell M. Shetter, of Leesburg, VA, two children: a son, William B. Shetter of Berryville, VA, and a daughter; Virginia L. Leddy of Mountain Home, AR, four grandchildren: Deana Cox of Dixon, MO, Dori Adkison of Cibolo, TX, Tara Ayars of Rolla, MO, and Dixie Cornwell of Winchester, VA and six great-grandchildren.
Born in Leesburg, VA, Billy was a native of Loudoun County, residing briefly in Leesburg, before spending most of his life in Sterling, VA. He went on to graduate from Ashburn High School in 1942, prior to enlisting in the United States Army that same year. During his time in the Army he served with the 444th Signal Construction Battalion, stationed in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. After his service in the Army, Billy worked as a Brakeman for the Washington and Old Dominion Railroad before beginning work with the United State Post Office as a Letter Carrier in 1947, working in Georgetown for a number of years before beginning his route in Sterling, VA. He retired after 36 years with the Post Office.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Road, Leesburg, VA 20176 on Friday, July 20, 2012, between 11:30am and 1:00pm. A service will immediately follow starting at 1:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville, VA.
