Obituary

Blair Ross Studebaker, Jr., of Leesburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully at the home of his son and daughter-in law on Saturday, March 9, 2019, shortly before his 85 th birthday. Blair was born on March 10, 1934, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  Blair, the son of Blair, Sr and Frances Studebaker, is survived by his loving son, Donald, and daughter-in-law Maria, of Leesburg, Virginia, as well as his grandsons Nicholas, Timothy and Ryan.  He is also survived by his brothers John Lee Studebaker and James Edward Studebaker.

Blair grew up in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh, and attended Wilkinsburg High School.  Following high school, Blair attended The Pennsylvania State University and obtain a BS in Industrial Engineering intending to pursue a career in equipment sales.  While at Penn State he also participated in the Air Force ROTC program.

After graduating from Penn State, he married his high school sweetheart, Grace, on June 16, 1956. After traveling and living in several parts of the United States while he fulfilled his ROTC obligation, during which time their first son Gregory was born, he and Grace temporarily settled in Annandale, Virginia while he attended The George Washington University Law School where he obtained his Juris Doctorate.  It was during this time that their second son Donald was born.  Don on the weekend often asked his mom "who is that strange man in our house?" referring to his father who spent long hours at work and at law school to make a better life for his family.  They eventually settled in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh and both of their parents.  It was there that Blair spent an illustrious career with Westinghouse Electric Corporation as in house counsel in their Intellectual Property Department.  Blair played quarterback for Wilkinsburg High School as a young man and continued his passion for football by coaching his son and other young players in his community.  In fact, when his son moved to a higher level team, Blair continued to coach a team that did not include his son just to stay close to the game.  Being an hardcore Pittsburgh Steelers fan was not enough.

Most know Blair as an avid golfer.  Following his retirement from Westinghouse in 1993, he played golf four or five days a week with his golfing buddy "Dickie."  In 2011, Blair and Grace moved to Ashburn, Virginia to be closer to their sons.  He still played golf a few times a week until the many years of smoking caught up with him.  Blair and Grace eventually moved to Leesburg, Virginia to live with their son Don. While there Blair and Grace celebrated their 60 th wedding anniversary before Grace's passing in 2016.

Visitation and a memorial service will be held to celebrate Blair's life on Sunday, March 24th, with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM followed by the memorial service at 2:00 PM, at Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, Virginia.
