Born in Mahaska, Kansas on May 3, 1926, Bobby (Bob) was the second child of Louis Vencil Fiser and Mary Jane (Maye) Brouse Fiser. The family, including Bob's three sisters, Margye, Eunice, and Ardyce, lived in Washington County, in extreme northern Kansas, one mile from the Kansas-Nebraska state line. Bob and his sisters attended grade school at the one-room Hopewell School. Bob graduated from Mahaska High School in 1944.
Called by the Selective Service, Bob served during World War II in the U. S. Navy until June, 1946. Following training at Farragut Naval Training Station in Idaho, he served aboard landing craft in the South Pacific, chiefly in the Philippine Islands.
Bob worked two years with the Missouri Farm Bureau, following his graduation from Kansas State University in 1950 with a degree in Agricultural Journalism. Highlights of Bob's career in journalism and mass communications included serving as editor of "The Poultry and Eggs Weekly", "The Packer", and "Johnson County Herald" newspapers. Bob worked extensively on the communications staff for the Director of the General Services Administration, retiring from GSA in 1993. After retiring, Bob enjoyed gardening, travel, reading, writing and actively participating in several "coffee groups".
Bob and Mary Kathleen Wade of Columbia, Mo. were married in December, 1955, and had a son, William Louis, and a daughter, Nancy Kay. Kathleen died in October 1979.
Bob married Angelica (Lela) Krinos in April, 1983, and has two stepsons, Manoli Krinos, of Greensboro, N.C. and Dimitri Krinos, of Tampa, Fla. Dimitri is married to the former Melissa Cale, and they have four daughters: Arianna, Larissa, Sophia, and Angelina, and a son, John-Nicholas. Lela died in February, 2004.
Bob most recently lived at Ashby Ponds in Ashburn, Va. His son and daughter and their families reside nearby. Bill is retired from the U.S. Marine Corps, and is married to the former Patricia Carey. Nancy is a registered nurse and is married to Behzad Ghaffari. They have three children, twin sons, Armon and Bijan, and a daughter, Parisa.
Bobby died July 22nd at his home in Ashburn. Besides his family, Bobby leaves many beloved friends in Ashby Ponds and throughout Northern Virginia. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 29th at King of Kings Lutheran Church in Fairfax, with a second memorial service to be held in Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Kansas State University Foundation c/o the Bobby Fiser Memorial Fund; 2323 Anderson Avenue; Manhattan, KS 66502, or the Nature Conservancy.
