Brian M. Roherty, 66, of Leesburg, VA died November 30, 2016. He was born in Seattle, the middle son of James and Maxine Roherty. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his Master's degree from the University of Texas-Austin Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Policy.
Prior to retiring, Brian had a long career in the public sector serving as the state budget director for several states; serving as the executive director of the National Association of State Budget Officers; running political campaigns; and serving as an officer of an IT company. He fully embraced his retirement and enjoyed hours gardening; volunteering for hospice; cooking elaborate meals; target practice; telling corny jokes and stories; political debates; and making friends everywhere. Brian helped countless people who were experiencing challenges in their lives offering rides, meals, comfort as well as his home.
Brian leaves his beloved wife Martha; his three daughters Anna Dougherty, Jacqueline (Fabricius), and Kathleen Roherty and two sons Daniel and Conor Roherty. He also leaves behind his son-in-law Daniel Dougherty and two precious grandchildren Maeve and Fiona Dougherty. He also leaves his father and stepmother James and Marion Roherty of Madison Wisconsin; brother Sean Roherty of San Francisco; and sister and brother-in-law Bridget and Curtis Barton. Brian was predeceased by his mother Maxine Roherty. He also leaves behind his previous wife, Marita Valencia.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on December 5 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, 21371 St. Theresa Lane, Ashburn, VA 20147. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Mr. Roherty's memory can be made to:
