Richard E. Meyer passed away on May 29, 2017 peacefully, with family by his side.   He is survived by his wife, Linda; 6 children, Lyn Holmes of Purcellville, VA; Richard Meyer of San Antonio, TX; Robert Meyer of Purcellville, VA; Nicole Galletta of Purcellville, VA, Michelle Workman of Broad Run, VA and Kristen Jones of San Diego, CA.  He is also survived by 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Gladys Meyer and 2 older brothers, Mervil and Marvin.

Captain Meyer was born in Lake City, Minnesota.  After attending the University of Minnesota, Captain Meyer joined the Navy in 1955 as a Naval Aviation Cadet and was awarded his Naval Aviator Wings and his Commission as an Ensign in 1957.  Captain Meyer served over 24 years as a Naval Aviator flying off Aircraft Carriers in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.  He commanded Air Anti-Submarine Squadron Twenty One (VS-21) in San Diego, CA in 1973 - 1974 before returning to Northern Virginia where he attended National War College and served a final tour of duty in the Pentagon completing his Naval Career.  Following his Navy retirement in 1980, he commenced a second career selling real estate in Northern Virginia where he remained active until his retirement in 2008.

Family is invited to gather and share the memories between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Road NE, Leesburg, VA 20176.

Captain Meyer will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
