Obituary

Carl David Humpton, 63 of Sterling, Virginia passed away unexpectedly on February 20 th 2021 .

Carl was born on December 28 th 1957 in Philadelphia PA to Felicia Libucki Humpton and John Harold Humpton Jr. (both deceased). After graduating from Valley Forge Military Academy, Carl entered the US Marine Corps and served for over 4 years. Not long after his discharge from the Marines, Carl looked up the CIA mailing address at a local library. He applied to the Agency and after acceptance spent the next 30 years of his life serving his country's interests all over the world.

He met his wife Lisa during a shared posting in Manila, and they married on June 23, 1990. They traveled together and built their small family overseas in Europe and South America, having three children before returning to Virginia in the year 2000. In December 2011, Carl retired from the Agency with over 30 years of exceptional service. He began a career at Raytheon Technologies after a very brief retirement. He loved his job, and permanent retirement was always "just one more year away." He was working at Raytheon at the time of his death.

Carl spent his life surrounded by good food, neat gadgets, and the love of every neighborhood dog. Family and friends will remember the huge hearty meals he loved to cook and share, as well as the snacks that found their way into every space that he briefly inhabited.  After the loss of his beloved dog Cassie in June 2020, Carl went on daily walks with a pocket full of treats for any dog he ran into. He was fiercely generous to all, a clever advisor to most, and wickedly funny to some (though always to himself).  We will miss him so much.

Carl is survived by his wife of 30 years Lisa Humpton, and his three children whom he adored: Anna, Emma, and John. He is also survived by his mother-in-law and father-in-law Bobbie and Buddy Poff; brothers John Humpton and Stan Humpton; sisters-in-law Julie Humpton and Mimi Humpton; brother-in-law Doug Poff and sister-in-law Kammy Poff, as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families.

A memorial visitation and service will be held on Friday 5 March at Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg.  Visitation will be from 1:00PM to 2:00PM with a private service (due to COVID) at 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Carl's name to the Humane Society of Loudoun County Here . The family can be reached at humpton1@verizon.net
