Carla Lesley Homan, 47, of Alexandria, VA, died Wednesday, January 6, 2021, in Arlington, VA after a months-long battle with pancreatic cancer.

Carla was born January 5, 1974, in Harper, KS, to Joyce Homan (née Zehr) and Carl Homan, who died in a plane crash prior to her birth. She was raised in Salisbury, PA by her mother and her mother's second husband, Clifford Maust. She was preceded in death by her mother Joyce, in 2017, her father Carl, in 1973, and her father Clifford in 2014.

A passion for literature and creative writing led Carla to pursue a degree in English at Dickinson College, where she graduated with a BA in 1996. She began her career in Pittsburgh, PA as a technical writer, and subsequently moved to the DC metropolitan area where she built her career in technology and cybersecurity.  She spent over a decade of her career working at Symantec, and prior to her death she was responsible for software release management at another security firm, Leidos.

Carla cared deeply for the health and wellbeing of others, and in particular, the health and wellbeing of children.  As such, she dedicated many years of her life as a foster mother to children in crisis.  She treasured the memories of the time she spent with Brandon, Alyssa and Brennan, and Jackie.

Carla is survived by a brother, David Homan, and his wife Jackie of Riverside, CT; her sister, Susan Markel (née Maust) and husband Jarred of Fairfax Station, VA; and her sister Jennifer Maust of Bridgeport, PA.  She had three nephews and two nieces.

A virtual Memorial Service will be held via Zoom, on January 16, 2021, at 10 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
