IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carol Jacques
Catulle
October 19, 1940 – January 31, 2024
Carol Virginia (Jacques) Catulle of Sterling, VA passed away peacefully on January 31, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Carol was born in Barre, VT on October 19, 1940, to Alcide Joseph and Gladys Mary (Benedict) Jacques. She graduated from Braintree-Randolph Union High School in 1958, in Randolph, Vermont and went on to the University of Vermont. For her senior year, she transferred to Carlow College in Pittsburgh, PA, where she graduated with a degree in psychology. It was here that her roommate set her up on a blind date with Robert E.Catulle, whom she married on October 13, 1962.
Carol was a stay-at-home mom for her children until 1979. Along with raising her children, Carol did a lot of charity work, particularly with The Arc of Loudon (LARC). In 1979, she started working as an eligibility worker for Fairfax County Social Services in VA and continued working there for over 30 years. Carol was a beloved and phenomenal wife, mother, and grandmother. She would happily travel any distance to watch her grandchildren participate in their many activities and sporting events and was always eager to celebrate their birthdays and milestones. Every summer, starting in 1984, she would rent a house in her happy place, Ocean City, MD, where her children and grandchildren were all invited. Many happy days were spent there sitting on the beach, playing dominoes and Skip-Bo, and of course making several trips to the boardwalk for Dumser's ice cream, Candy Kitchen treats, and the famous Thrashers French fries.
Carol was also devoted to her Catholic faith. She had been a member of Christ the Redeemer Roman Catholic church since it opened over 50 years ago. At various times, she was in a bible study group, a rosary prayer group, and volunteered for myriad activities. She often said that her favorite volunteer work was spending a week every summer with the Arlington Diocese WorkCamp program. She volunteered there for many years and was still volunteering at the age of 75. While there, she helped to hand out tools and lunches to the hundreds of teens who volunteered to assist those in need by building and repairing houses. Her love of travel took her all over the United States, mostly traveling with the local senior group. At age 78, she even traveled with her church group to the Christian holy lands.
Carol was a wonderful and devoted friend. She always enjoyed celebrating birthdays, going to lunches, and simply visiting. She loved spending time at the Senior Center, participating in her investment group, watching football, reading, solving crossword puzzles, and playing games such as pinochle, mahjong and canasta.
She is predeceased by her husband, Robert E. Catulle, and her brother, Stephen Jacques. She is survived by her 3 children, Kim Hart of Ashburn, VA (husband Tom), Kristin Stanley of Mendham, NJ (husband Tom) and Scott Catulle of Hagerstown, MD and his fiancée, Laura Jones of Frederick, MD. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Kevin Hart, Thomas Stanley, Lindsey Hart, Daniel Stanley, Melissa Hart, Jack Stanley, Katie Catulle, and Kelli Catulle, as well as her brother Curt Jacques. Carol will always be remembered by those who love her as an amazing wife, friend, coworker, mother, and grandmother.
