Our mother had an eventful and loving life, filled with friends, family, and adventures which took her from the London suburbs to Canada and the United States. Carole Patricia Baker was born in Barking, Essex, England on 15 March 1941 to Norah Murphy Baker and John William Baker. She was an only, and adored, child raised in a home noted for its warmth and laughter. She attended Eastbury School in Barking and then St. Angela's Ursuline School in Forest Gate, London.
On April 3, 1961, Mum married our father Roger J. Caudery. They had us three children, Victoria (1962), Philip (1963), and Lesley (1967). In 1965, they decided to embark on an adventure that changed all of our lives by moving to Canada. After a few years of migrating between England, Canada, and the United States, in 1971 we settled in East Brunswick, New Jersey and then later in Alexandria, Virginia. But no matter where we lived, Mum always made friends and paved the way for us with her sweet nature and kind heart.
Mum was very proud to be English and never lost her love for the UK. After our parents divorced, she lived in England for most of the '90s, returning just in time to become a loving grandmother to Libby (2000), Ryan (2000), Brooke and Ashley (2004), and Mia (2004). In her last years, Mum suffered from dementia. Although she had trouble remembering names, she knew she was loved by those who surrounded her, and she always retained her essential sweetness. Mum will be greatly missed by her immediate family, including sons-in-law Mead Allison and Michael Vandergrift and daughter-in-law Mimi Cook Caudery, her extended family in England, and her wonderful and supportive friends. But we are comforted by the thought that she has joined our loved ones who have passed, likely leading a sing-song and having a laugh.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Wednesday, September 4, 2013 starting at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Leesburg, Virginia. Burial to follow in Union Cemetery in Leesburg.
