Carolyn Hassert (1964-2023)

Carolyn Marie Miller Hassert passed away in September 2023 after a long illness.

Carolyn was the daughter of Robert and Elsie Miller, formerly of Great Falls and Ashburn. She grew up in Massachusetts but a sudden move to Virginia found her graduating from Herndon High School.

A part-time job as a bank teller opened the door to a forty-year career with one banking company, the current Wells Fargo. Carolyn leveraged superior organizational ability, attention to detail, and high-EQ customer service to work her way up from teller to head teller to assistant branch manager to branch manager. She then made the leap to HR, becoming a human resources executive focused on recruiting. She knew what the jobs required and had keen insight to identify the best candidates.

Carolyn was artistic and skilled with crafts. She absolutely loved the holiday season, decorating as many as four Christmas trees in different parts of her home and making ornaments that were lovely keepsakes and gifts, all giving her much joy. She was an avid cook, loved great food, and thoroughly enjoyed creating delicious meals to share with friends and family. Carolyn also cherished the many feline members of her family that she cared for over the years, most recently her beloved Max.

She met the great love of her life, Jim Hassert, on Christmas Eve. They married in 1999 and moved to Leesburg. Carolyn loved his sons from his first marriage and all the grandchildren that followed. They and her brother, Douglas Miller, will remember Carolyn as a lovely, kind, good-natured human being who did everything she could to help others and make things better.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, November 11, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd.,NE., Leesburg, VA  20176 where a memorial service will begin at 5:00 pm.
