Catherine M. Kenny, age 87, of Leesburg, VA passed away on November 10, 2016 at Morningside House.

Burial will follow at Arlington National Cemetery.

Catherine was born in New York City and her parents were Peter and Mary Kate Cooney.  Her only brother, Jack Cooney, died in 1978.  Her husband of 63 years, Patrick J. Kenny, died in March 2014.  One of her sons, Thomas P. Kenny, died in March 2016.

Kay (her favorite nick name) graduated from William Cullen Bryant High School, Long Island City, NY and she attended St. John's University in Brooklyn.

After her marriage in 1950, Kay embarked on her career as a diligent military wife.  She set up homes in nine different places, coordinated new schools for her 3 children, and took care of everything on the home front.

Kay was a woman of great organization.  She loved knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, and trading interesting recipes.   She especially loved the dance music of the Big Band era and cranked up the family hi-fi to the music she enjoyed.

Her husband, Patrick, often joked that every home must have a leader and he followed her to his many duty assignments.

She raised her three children, ran the household, budgeted for bills and planned the family finances so her husband could pursue his demanding 30 year military career with single-minded attention and focus.  Kay told her children that although they had no rank, they were all in the military.

She is survived by her son Kevin and his wife, Trish Kenny of Ashburn, VA and her daughter, Karen and her husband, David Dorrough of Marietta, GA.  Her five grandchildren include: Kate Dorrough, Charlotte Kenny, Peter Kenny, Emily Kenny and Molly Kenny
