Obituary

Charleen (Char) Gwen Sciolaro went to be with our Lord our God on 1/19/2018 at the age of 88.  Charleen was born in Kansas City, Kansas on March 9, 1929 to Charles and Fannie Walter of Merriam, Kansas.  She was their only child.  Charleen graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1947 and went to William Woods College in Fulton, MO, a private girls college, graduating with an AA degree in Psychology in 1949.

Charleen was saved and baptized at the Merriam Christian church in Merriam Kansas and was a member of the Woodson Avenue Bible Church in Shawnee Mission, Kansas.  She has been a regular attendee at Cornerstone Chapel in Leesburg, Virginia since 2005.

Charleen met, fell in love with and married Gerald M. Sciolaro, son of Joseph and Helen Sciolaro.  They were married on January 25, 1957 at the Merriam Christian Church in Merriam, Kansas, after a 3 month courtship.  Their love and union lasted 47 yrs.

Charleen and Gerald were blessed with two children:  Susan Lynch of Hamilton, Virginia and Dr. Charles Sciolaro of Leawood, Kansas and seven grandchildren: Austin, Halle and Lauren Lynch and Rachel, Lynsey, Ryan and Jonathan Sciolaro,

Charleen worked at the Internal Revenue Service as a Customer Service Representative in the Collection Department for 21 years.  At 67 years of age, she retired and she and her husband moved close to their daughter Susan and son in law Rob and 3 children. Gerald passed away on 12/4/2003 and since that time Charleen lived with her daughter and her family.

Charleen joined the Purcellville Senior Center in 2006 and later joined the Leesburg Senior Center where she was an avid member of the Crocheting and knitting and Bible Study groups.  She enjoyed painting and would often exhibit her artwork in the art shows at the Senior Center.  She won several awards in Wii bowling.

Charleen was an inspiration to her daughter and family. When faced with adversity, Charleen always leaned on the Lord Jesus Christ to get her through.  She made many friends at her grandchildren's athletic and daughters equestrian events.  She will be missed by all of us for her love, kindness, generosity and sense of family.

Family will receive friends on Thursday, January 25, 2018 from 6:00pm to 7:00pm with a service immediately following at Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd., NE, Leesburg, VA  20176.
