Charles Lynn Childress, PhD, age 75, who passed unexpectedly on October 29, 2022, of a cardiac event in Leesburg, Virginia. Born to Charles Graden (Bud) and Eva Glyn (Putnam) Childress on June 18, 1947, in Albuquerque NM where he lived most of his life, graduating from Albuquerque HS.
Charles Is survived by his wife Judy Devlin of Brambleton, daughter Kristin Lynn Childress MD Las Vegas NV. Three stepchildren/spouses, Shane (Natalia) Palmer, Julie Palmer (Tom) Witkowski, and Ian Devlin, and five grandchildren, Sage and Layla Palmer, Tristan and Trevor Witkowski, and Liam Devlin. Not to be forgotten, his beloved cat, Jax.
Education: PhD, Mathematics (1974) University of Michigan and Princeton University.
BS, Mathematics University of New Mexico Summa Cum Laude (1969).

Previous employment includes:
Director of Federal Business Development, Stanford Research Lab, Principal Scientist, General Dynamics, Director Defense Business Unit, Goodrich, Gen Manager & Director ABQ Engineering Lab, Hughes Aircraft Company.
Before entering the public sector, Charles was a faculty member at Case Western Reserve University, Technische Universitat, Berlin the University of Hawaii and the University of Michigan.
He served one year as a Senate Staffer under Sen. Pete Dominici R-NM.
Charles was an intellectual. He used his intellect and his compassion to do his best at everything he did. His motto was, "I always try to do my best." He did his best to help others in any circumstance. He had life changing impact on numerous people's lives.
He was a man of boundless energy. The thought of retirement was beyond him; loving the challenge and creativity work provided him. Time was taken daily three things he found essential for life; improvement of body, mind and spirit. This included continuous learning, riding his bicycle, and taking time for the things, people and the cat he loved. He will be sorely missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 11:00 am at Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd., NE, Leesburg, VA 20176.
