IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles
Lorin
September 8, 1920 – December 14, 2013
Charles Lorin, formerly of Pittsburgh, died peacefully at his home, surrounded by his children, in Lansdowne, Virginia on December 14, 2013. He was 93 years old. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Huberta "Beppie" von Mauw Lorin.
Born in Pontarlier, France, on September 8, 1920, Charles grew up in Paris and Verneuil-sur-Avre, and spent his summers at his patriarchal home in St-Jean-le-Thomas. Charles received his degree in electrical engineering, then worked at the Dutch patent office in the Hague, where he met his wife. They moved to the United States where Charles obtained his law degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pa. He was a resident of Churchill and worked as a patent attorney for Westinghouse for over 30 years.
Charles was well known for being friendly, charming, and polite with friends and strangers. He was also famous for his long daily walks. He diligently mailed detailed letters and pictures to friends and family. He was loyal and took great pride in his family. He attended weekly mass without fail, and valued his many travels around the world, especially in Europe. He enjoyed discussing history, music, language, and art. Charles had a whimsical sense of humor that could catch people pleasantly off-guard. In his younger years, he enjoyed drawing caricatures. More recently, he took pleasure in watching classic movies.
He is greatly missed by his children, Hubert Lorin and wife Katie Conlon Lorin, Francis Lorin and Doreen Winkler, Christine "Tina" Lorin, and Brigitte Lorin Stites and husband Charles Stites, and his 3 grandchildren, Helena, Henry, and Elisabeth Stites.
A Catholic funeral mass and burial was held in St-Jean-le-Thomas, France, on January 6, 2014 and attended by all his family.
