Charles "Chuck" Piekarski passed away on June 6th at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore after a long battle with heart disease.
Chuck was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts to parents Joseph and Ida Piekarski, along with older brother, Victor. He attended Holy Rosary School and Central Catholic High School, before studying at Boston College, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Economics.
One of his first jobs in his adult life was at the IRS Service Center in Andover, MA. He then became a programmer/analyst and transferred to Virginia to work at the main IRS branch in Washington, DC. He eventually was promoted to senior IT manager, and later retired after 33 years of service. He continued to work as an IT program manager for Northrup Grumman and most recently, Maximus.
He was married to Nancy Bezek in 1993 after meeting and working together at the IRS. They lived in Fairfax, Virginia where his twins, Laura and Sarah, were born and raised for a couple years before settling into his current home in Ashburn, Virginia.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Nancy and daughters, Laura and Sarah; his brother, Victor "Vic" Piekarski (and wife, Gwyn); mother-in-law, Ruth Bezek; nieces Jennifer Combs and Andrea Piekarski; nephews Christopher Piekarski, JJ Hensley, and Patrick Hensley; sisters-in-law, Joanna Klose (and husband, Scott) and Carol Hensley; and beloved dog, Sadie.
He loved to hate the "Washington football team" and rooted for just about any other team, especially the New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys. Chuck's other interests included rooting for the Boston Red Sox and sporting the team's baseball hat, watching pro wrestling (especially with his dad and brother), and occasionally fish from his pontoon boat or various beach piers, where he enjoyed the tunes of Jimmy Buffett. Before becoming a family man, he realized his dream to own and ride a Harley and much later traded that dream for his new BMW convertible.
He was a devoted father and husband. Chuck loved to take his family on many exciting vacations to places like Niagara Falls, Italy, his hometown in Massachusetts, and begrudgingly, Disney World.
We know, up where he is, that he is wasting away again in Margaritaville, scaling the "Tower Building" at BC in protest, attempting to steal reindeer on Christmas Eve after a showing of Scrooge, and sitting in a reclining chair watching over us.
