Charles Robert Thompson, 68, of Leesburg, Virginia departed this world on 31 January 2013. He was born on 22 August 1944 in Youngstown, Ohio to Eleanor M. Thomas and Charles R. Thompson. He is survived by his faithful wife, Sandra D. Thompson, and his two sons: Christopher S. and Brian J.
Chuck served as a Russian linguist in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1966. After moving to Northern Virginia, he continued his government service in the employ of the Central Intelligence Agency for 34 years. After retiring, he continued to work as a contractor for several other government agencies. He was valued for his unique skill set and his can-do attitude.
While starting his career at the CIA, Chuck met and fell in love with Sandra Burton in 1979 and they married a year later. The family was completed with the addition of their two sons, Christopher and Brian.
Growing up near the Great Lakes, Chuck was fond of boating. He was also a man of many gadgets—always tinkering with the latest technology—from radios to personal computers.
Chuck also enjoyed the company of mankind's many sidekicks, including the dogs, cats and rabbits that accompanied him and his family over the years. He was a kind and gentle soul to all.
In his later years, he developed a bit of a green thumb and worked diligently on his backyard planter garden. Tomatoes were his favorite crop and he often donated his excess harvest to local food banks.
Charles was a loving husband, patient father and dedicated provider. He will be greatly missed by all those that had the pleasure of sharing their time with him.
Gone but not forgotten,
Charles R. Thompson
