It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved mother, Christine Lee Smith (nèe Crawford).

Chris was born March 14th, 1953 and died October 24th, 2023 after a long battle with cancer. Chris was a fighter and showed amazing grace and strength during her illness, and she was surrounded by family and love in her final moments.  Her lively personality and her unwavering spirit will forever be remembered.  She is preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of nearly 40 years, James Smith. She is survived by her son Phillip Smith (wife Jessica and granddaughters Julia, Olivia, Amelia and Emma), daughter Heather Jones (husband John, and grandchildren Dylan, Hannah and Ellie), and her sisters Susan Huba and Barbara Kidwell (and husband David). Chris spent 40 years as a nurse, starting out in pediatrics and finally finding her calling in surgery. It was her nature to be caring and compassionate, and she always had a hug and a kind word when needed. In retirement, she was a foster mom to many rescue animals, and a secret benefactor to multiple schools. Chris was a do-er, always someone you could count on. She believed in keeping her word, and never let anyone down. Chris loved travel, food, and reading. Her favorite adventures included Italy, Ireland, and Alaska.  She loved to cruise. However, all of those interests paled in comparison to her love for her family.  Chris was the penultimate example of what a mother and grandmother should be.  She adored each of her grandchildren, and never missed an important event- from safety camp graduations to swim meets to grandparents' day at school. She kissed boo-boos with the same level of care that she gave to patient's post-surgery.
