Obituary

On September 27, 2024, Claudia Denise Scordellis, aged 69, peacefully transitioned to her next chapter, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and endless love. Claudia's life was a testament to the beauty of simple joys and the power of a kind heart. Known for her infectious laughter, her playful and positive outlook, the ability to out fish any of the guys and outdance all the guests at a wedding, Claudia lived a life full of joy, love, and an endless supply of good stories.

Born on October 18, 1954, Claudia grew up with a generous heart and a mischievous twinkle in her eye. From a young age, she had a natural ability to connect with others, always ready with a comforting word or to start the next adventure.  She had a way of making everyone feel like they were the most important person in the room and had a huge heart for all her animals from the cats and dogs to horses, to little forest creatures and all critters in between.

Claudia's greatest joy was her family. She shared 44 wonderful years with her husband Kerry, who was her steadfast partner in life's journey. Together, they raised three children, Erin, Lisa and Amanda, who were the pride of her life. Claudia was the kind of mother who was always there—whether it was for a heart-to-heart talk, a homemade meal, or simply a quiet moment together. Her grandchildren were her absolute delight, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Professionally, Claudia spent over 25 years as a dedicated employee of Loudoun County Public Schools, where she touched countless lives with her compassion and expertise. She was known not just for her skills, but for her gentle nature and the genuine care she showed to all she trained.

Claudia was also a novice gardener, finding peace and joy in tending to her flowers. Her garden was a reflection of her soul—beautiful, nurturing, and full of life. She loved nothing more than to take a tour around her home sharing the beauty to all who walked with her.

Claudia found happiness in the simple pleasures: a good book, crocheting, or playing cards or 6 dice with her friends around the kitchen table.  Her happy place was the banks of OBX, casting a line or bathing in the sun reading.

Claudia is survived by her loving and devoted husband Kerry, her children Erin (Alex Lawlor), Lisa (Bradley Brown) and Amanda, and her three cherished grandchildren, Silvius, Jace and Bailey. She also leaves behind a close-knit group of family, friends and a community that will miss her joyful "Hey There" and her "LIFE IS GOOD" motto.

In honoring Claudia, her family will hold a viewing at Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg, VA on October 25 between 2:00PM and 3:00PM.  The following day she will be laid to rest at the family cemetery in the River of the Valley in Tom Brooks VA, followed by a reception and celebration of life. The procession will start at Valley Funeral Home in Edinburg, VA at 1:00PM followed by a graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you plant something in Claudia's memory, whether it's a tree, a flower, or simply a seed of kindness in someone's heart.

Claudia Denise Scordellis lived a life of love, and her memory will continue to bloom in the hearts of those who knew her.
