Col. Alfred
D. Heck, Usmcr Ret.
May 12, 1932 – December 2, 2019
Col. Alfred D. Heck USMCR ret., 87, passed away December 2, 2019. He was born in Schenectady, NY, May 12, 1932 to Alfred and Lillian Heck. He grew up most of his life in Washington, D.C. and as a teenager delivered newspapers to the White House as part of his route. He married his childhood sweetheart, Ann Taylor Baldwin, who preceded him in death in 2015. As a young man he proudly answered the call to duty and joined the Marine Corps at the start of the Korean War. His courageous conduct in Korea led the Marine Corps to commission him as a second Lieutenant. At the time he was the youngest Marine ever commissioned. Al went on to become a real-estate broker and appraiser in Northern Virginia but continued to serve his beloved Corps in the Reserves reaching the rank of Colonel. He was always active in the Toys for Tots program and served as the area coordinator. Once retired he and his wife moved to Harpers Ferry, WV. Here Al continued to serve his community as President of the local Lions Club chapter. Upon his death he was living in Leesburg, Va.
He is survived by three daughters, Karen Heck, Laura Heck, Leigh Ann Heck-LaRosa, and son in law James LaRosa, two sisters Emily Gewecke and Alva Loudermilk, and a brother Arthur Heck. He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, Dwayne Barton, Gillian Helmick, Alexandra Pollock, Nermina Arnaud, Hugo Greyling, Lynn Sligar, Lauren Aman, Natalie LaRosa, and James LaRosa. He was blessed to have also known 8 great grandchilderen, Charlotte, Grayson, Dino, Audrey, Lavender, Eloise, Landon, and Emil.
Services will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
