Concepcion Mendoza Deguzman Alonzo was born on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8, 1952 in Jalajala, Rizal in the Philippines, to Felicisimo Deguzman and Isidra Perez Mendoza Deguzman.  Named for the holy day she was born on, Concepcion was the 3 rd child and the only girl of her five siblings.  When her mother died, she was raised by her six maternal aunts (Zenaida L. Merle, Chayong L. Añago, Juana L. Estrellado, Natividad M. Buenavista, Juliana M. Supleo, and Rosita P. Mañosca).  They affectionately called her "Nene," which meant "little girl," and Connie for short. Connie was always full of mischief, life, and laughter – her humor and positive spirit was felt by many.  Her faith was always an incredibly strong guide in her life.

She met her husband, Adriano (Andy) Alonzo, in 1975 through her cousin. Their love blossomed and strengthened through the many milestones and challenges in their life.  Connie then moved to Italy after graduating college for a few years, working as a Personal Assistant to an Italian diplomat.  She quickly learned Italian and toured Europe in her time there.  When Andy left the Philippines to come to New York City, she followed him and they were wed through a civil union on July 6, 1979.  In 1980, Connie and Andy welcomed their eldest daughter, Christine Adrianne, and then in 1990, they welcomed their youngest child, Christal Anne.  Connie and Andy's faith guided their marriage and they happily celebrated many wedding anniversaries, commemorating their 10 th and 25 th milestones at Our Lady of Hope Church in New York.

Connie was exemplary and resourceful; she was able to acclimate to a new country, learn the language, and quickly found work.  With her quick wit, smile, and intelligence, she obtained a position as a clerk at Lenox Hill Hospital and built a long-standing career, quickly getting promoted to a Unit Manager of one of the most critical cardiac units within the hospital.  After a decade of service, she took her talent to Jamaica Hospital and pivoted to become an IT Project Manager and Systems Analyst, spearheading the deployment of Epic Systems across units in the hospital. Today, Epic is the premier and primary digital software utilized by all hospitals in the United States.

Beyond her professional career, Connie was a loving mother, wife, and a strong spiritual guide. She taught the importance of humility, kindness, and prayer. Her husband was often comforted by her bright outlook on life, her charismatic nature, and her resilience in overcoming challenges. Her children often called her every night and sought the comfort of both her words and her arms whenever they felt down or elated. Her daughters loved hearing her booming laughter and her ability to see the bright side of things. She always said our faith in God would guide us when things are dark or uncertain.  She was a force of nature and light – she was a continual guiding hand for all of her nieces and nephews.  When she became a grandmother, her elation could be felt in every smile, look, and word.

After her retirement, Connie managed to enjoy some time travelling to the Philippines, reuniting and connecting with her family.  Shortly after moving from New York to Virginia, in order to be closer to her grandchild, Connie was diagnosed with multiple mini strokes, then Parkinson's, and breast cancer. In those 3 years, Connie fought with the optimism and fierceness that is inherent in her spirit.  Her devoted husband, Andy, never wavered by her side through each and every trial.  She overcame breast cancer chemotherapy and surgery and worked hard to fight the debilitating effects of the stroke and Parkinson's.  On November 17, 2020, God called to her and Connie passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her husband and two daughters.

Connie is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Andy, her two daughters, Christine and Christal, her son-in-law, Andrew, and her granddaughter, Christiana.  She is also survived by her brothers, Walter and John, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, grandchildren from them, and her loving cousins who looked up to her as the eldest in their generation and leader of their affairs. May she rest in God's loving arms forever in eternal peace.
