IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Constance Frances
Bubon
August 21, 1934 – March 7, 2025
On March 7, 2025, Constance "Connie" F. Bubon passed away peacefully in her Ashburn, Virginia home at the age of ninety.
Connie was born on August 21, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois. The oldest of four children, she grew up in Argo, Illinois, attended Argo High School, and received her degree in nursing thereafter from Michael Reese Hospital. Connie's work as a nurse was a reflection of her commitment to health and wellness, and more significantly, her dedication and care for those around her. Connie's embodiment of these qualities served as a strong foundation for all of her relationships, namely her late husband Colonel John "Jack" Bubon, her children and grandchildren, and her friendships– regardless of whether she had known someone for decades or minutes, Connie was a friend to all.
Early in their marriage, Jack asked Connie whether he should continue with his military career or continue in his path to become a university professor. Her response that she always wanted to travel set a course for their more than 50- year marriage that had them living throughout the world while she raised their four children. Her generosity of spirit, her willingness to help others and welcoming nature served her well each time she moved in support of Jack's military service. Connie loved learning about people's customs and cultures and meeting and hearing about the lives of others. Her love of travel continued even after her husband retired from the military. Throughout her life, she visited a multitude of countries in 5 continents including Jordan, Iran, Israel, Egypt, Japan, Australia, Canada, Great Britain, Lithuania and many EU countries.
Connie loved her Ashby Ponds community. She often took it upon herself to welcome new people to Ashby Ponds by setting up a welcome party or taking them to lunch or dinner when they arrived offering to be a resource so they would feel at home. She lived her life to the fullest, embracing opportunities to stay active and engaged with the community. Connie found joy in helping others, playing pickleball, bocce, bunco and actively participating in walking groups, movies, bingo, gardening and a multitude of Ashby Ponds sports and activities. She also dedicated her time to trying to make a positive change for those around her. For example, she established a scholarship program at Ashby Ponds to support future nurses and also contributed generously so that young people with disabilities in her grandson's community would continue to have housing together. Her vibrant spirit brought people together and her warmth and dedication will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Connie is survived by three of her children, Michael Bubon, Leslie Byrne, Julie Keller and her husband J Keller, her four grandchildren, Jason and Jamie Keller, John ("JB") and Jodie Byrne, her brother, John Wiseman and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, along with the eldest of their four children, John Eric. Connie will be remembered for her adventurous attitude, generous spirit, and her motivation to learn new things. Her legacy will be continued through the people she helped, inspired, and influenced.
A funeral Mass will be held on April 4, 2025, at 10:30am at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, 21371 St. Theresa Lane, Ashburn, VA, followed by a "Remembering Connie" reception at the Farmwell Hall at Ashby Ponds. Connie will be laid to rest with her beloved husband, Jack, at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ashby Ponds Scholars' Fund or the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA).
