Corrine Mary McHugh, 92, passed away peacefully Dec. 11, 2024, of complications from Alzheimer's disease surrounded by her family at Falcon's Landing in Potomac Falls, Va. Born Oct. 30, 1932, to E. Paul and Agnes Hoover of Patton, Pa., Corrine grew up a happy and busy dairy farm girl with her siblings, Elaine, Mary Catherine, Leroy, Bert, Jim, Tom, Bob and Dick. She trained at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh and became an OB/GYN nurse at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. There, she met Gerald McHugh of Philadelphia, and they married on May 11, 1957. Over several military tours, they were stationed in Massachusetts, Florida, Texas, Greece, Virginia and Alabama. They had four children, Michele, Kevin, Karen and Christopher. After Gerald's retirement from the Air Force, they lived in Upper Marlboro, Md., Carmel, Ind., Earlysville, Va., and Round Hill, Va. Corrine was a celebrated baker who loved making dozens of Christmas cookies. She found joy in volunteering, sewing, fly fishing, gardening, playing with her dogs and telling stories to her grandchildren about dairy farming.
Corrine is survived by her husband, Gerald and children Michele Bedard (husband Paul) of Purcellville, Va., Kevin (wife Mary Beth) of Chesapeake, Va., Karen of Purcellville, Va., Chris (wife Amanda) of California, Md., and six grandchildren. Viewing will be at 10 a.m. and services at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Potomac Falls, Va., Dec. 18. Burial at Arlington National Cemetery will occur at a later date.
