October 6, 1942 - February 11, 2023

Cristian Folescu, beloved husband, father and grandfather, 80, passed away peacefully overnight in his sleep on Saturday, February 11, 2023. He was fit and active up until the last moment, skiing, gardening, tutoring his grandson in math, and doing all for his family, when God called him home.

Cristian was born and raised in the western part of Romania and was one of the pioneer computer specialists the country. He managed to escaped communism and emigrated to the United States in 1974 as a political refugee from the Ceausescu regime.

He was an avid reader, amateur historian & mathematician, and family man par excellence, known for his warmth and intellect. He built a wonderful career in information technology with all the opportunities this country gave him and continied his career long after his formal retirement. He will be greatly missed by his immediate family, as well as his family friends here and abroad.

He was survived by his wife, Mariana, with whom he was married for 55 years, his daughter, Simona, and his grandson, Nicholas.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Ashburn VA on Friday, February 17, 2023 at 1pm, burial at Union Cemetery in Leesburg at 2:30pm, and a reception with light refreshments at Tuscagora Mill Restaurant in Leesburg starting at 3:30pm.

The family would prefer donations in the form of mass intentions in lieu of flowers.
