Dallas Gibson passed away on Sunday March 28, 2021 at his home in Leesburg, Virginia at the age of 84. Dallas was born on September 10, 1936 in Larned, Kansas to Chester and Joy Gibson and grew up in the neighboring town of Rosell, Kansas. He was the youngest of 3 children. Dallas enlisted out of high school in the Army and served as a radio control specialist for a F-155 (Long Tom) Artillery Battalion. Returning home, he enrolled at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas and earned a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. He spent the majority of his career working in the defense industry as a field engineer, including a 3 month rotation in Thailand during the Vietnam War. Dallas also went on to complete a Masters in Business Administration degree at University of New Hampshire.
Dallas was the beloved husband of the late Lesta Gibson (2011); devoted father of Tonja Cross, and the late Dallas Gibson Jr. (2019); loving father-in-law of Erich Grove; cherished grandfather of Ben Cross, Lance Cross, Logan Gibson, and Lindsay Gibson; dear brother of the late Lorraine Gillete and the late Evelyn Hagerman.
Dallas's work as an electrical engineer took him and his family to various locations along the East Coast including Clearwater, FL, Long Island, NY, Nashua, NH, Springfield, VA and the Naval Air Station Patuxent River, MD.
He enjoyed hiking along the Appalachian Trail & Mt. Monadnock in New Hampshire. He also was an avid skier and enjoyed playing pool with his grandsons and son-in-law. Most of his spare time was spent watching his grandchildren participate in various athletic endeavors including swimming, football, basketball, baseball, softball and cheerleading. His oldest grandchild Ben is quoted as saying "he was my biggest supporter! At every game, always".
After his wife's passing in 2011, Dallas spent his time taking trips with the senior center of Leesburg and became an active member of Harmony United Methodist Church. Dallas was a kind and sweet man, who was devoted to his family, had a wonderful smile, and always wore colorful hats. He will be missed by many.
Funeral services are to be held on April 10 th , 2021 at 2pm at Harmony United Methodist Church in Hamilton, Virginia.
