Daniel Milford Hyatt
Daniel Milford Hyatt died peacefully in his home on November 7, 2018, in Leesburg, VA, at the age of 88. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean (Fleming) Hyatt, his young children David Wayne Hyatt (Jan 31, 1961 - Feb 2, 1961) and Lori Jean Hyatt (June 14, 1962 - December 31, 1962).
Dan is survived by his children, Tammy Jean Ellmore (of Boyce, VA) and Daniel Wayne Hyatt (of Winchester, VA), Wayne's wife Angela Kay (Holbrook) Hyatt along with two grandchildren David William (9 years) and Kaitlyn Elizabeth (6 years) whom he loved and adored and one sister; Willetta Dinges. He is predeceased by three of his sisters; Rosebud Carper, Cornelia Souders and Elva Rawls.
Dan was born on April 16, 1930 in Ranson, WV, to Hiram Simeon Hyatt and Lillian Berdell (McCarty) Hyatt. Dan graduated from Charles Town High School in 1949. He married the love of his life, Betty Jean Fleming, December 22, 1953.
Over their 62 year marriage the couple raised two children to adulthood. The children remember their father being supportive and loving. Dan and Betty Jean encouraged Tammy and Wayne to pursue their dreams.
Dan enjoyed woodworking, camping, traveling, gardening, and spoiling his precious grand kids. His life was devoted to family and country as he served in the Armed Forces of the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956. He was a volunteer life-member of the Leesburg Volunteer Fire Company 1 during which time he served as Vice President and Treasurer. He was also a member of The American Legion Virginia Post 0141.
A funeral is scheduled for Monday, November 12, 2018 at 11:00 am at Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg, VA with a reception to follow at the Leesburg Fire Hall (Co. 1). Pastor Glenn Hughes of Staunton, VA will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Dan's life.
