Obituary

David James Austin, age 87, of Ashburn VA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 in Ashburn VA. He was born in Erie, PA on March 6,1937, son of the late Harry Ormeal Austin and Louise Austin Stuczynski, and stepson of the late Stanley Stuczynski.

David graduated from East High in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1955.  After high school, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and then commissioned as an U.S. Air Force officer where he served out his military career and retired as a USAF Major. He later worked at the Pentagon and NASA with a focus on the Space Shuttle program. David attended The University of Omaha, graduating in 1966 with a Bachelor's degree. He also attended The University of Dayton, graduating in 1974 with a Master of Business Administration.

One to always be involved in his community, he served on the Ashburn Village Board for many years and volunteered for many other organizations throughout his life time. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He loved sharing stories about his many travels and attending events for his grandchildren. He was caring and kind and left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.

David was preceded in death by his brothers, Don Austin, Edward Austin and sister, Janice Austin. He is survived by his wife Geraldine Austin, three children; Stephen Austin (Janet), Michelle Batt (James), Paula Perrin (Christopher); 8 grandchildren (Monique, Stephen-David, Erika, Christopher Riley, Nicole, Garrett, Hannah, Zoey); 2 great-grandchildren (Koda, Luca); and many nieces and nephews. David will be dearly missed and always remembered.

There will be a private service for immediate family on March 18, 2025. The funeral will be held on a future date at Arlington National Cemetery.
