Dr. David Scranton Meroney, 85, passed away on March 23, 2026, in Fairfax, Virginia.
David was born on December 23, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Tom Meroney and Irene Meroney. He spent the majority of his life in Northern Virginia, where he built both a successful dental career and a strong, loving family.
David proudly served his country as a Captain in the United States Army Dental Corps. Following his military service, he went on to serve the Leesburg community as a dedicated dentist for over 50 years. He was known not only for his skill and professionalism, but for the warmth he brought to his practice. David had an endless repertoire of jokes and made it a point to share one with every patient, bringing laughter and ease to those in his care. His great sense of humor was a hallmark of who he was.
Above all, David was a devoted husband and an extremely loving father. He spent his life encouraging and supporting his four sons and took great pride in their lives and accomplishments. His steady presence, guidance, and unwavering care will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Larissa Meroney; his four sons, Aaron Meroney, Mark Meroney, Matthew Meroney, and Patrick Meroney; his stepson, Dmitry Chicherin; his four grandchildren, Gianna, Nico, Benicio, and River Meroney; and his brother, Bob Meroney. He was preceded in death by his parents.
David will be remembered for his kindness, his humor, and his deep love for his family and his country. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched, both in his community and within his family. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
