Obituary

David William Wolverton, Age 82, of Destin, FL passed away March 4 th with his family and friends beside him.

David was one of God's special children.  He was born February 25, 1937 in Winchester, VA to Perry Milton and Mary Ellen (Dutterer) Wolverton.  At about age one he had an accident that left him handicapped for the rest of his life.  He loved his church, First Presbyterian of Destin.  He rarely missed Sunday School and Church.  David was a shy person but loved to be around people.  He enjoyed working and had many jobs over the years.  His last and most loved job was working at the Winn Dixie store in Destin, bringing in those carts and bagging groceries, for over 25 years.  The family cannot thank the staff and management of Winn Dixie enough for their loving understanding as he grew older and had health issues.    He belonged to the Sonic City Lions Club and attended as often as he could.  He was active in the Destin Seniors Group.  He was a member of Horizons.  He was known for many years as the "Can Man" of Destin, collecting and with help, selling the aluminum to raise money for the Shriners Children's Hospital and the Sonic City Lions Club.

David was predeceased by his parents, Perry and Mary Wolverton, sister Mary Sixma, and brother Paul Wolverton.

David is survived by his sister, Gladys Haney, as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg, VA on Saturday, March 9 th at 1PM with visitation starting at noon. He will be interred with his parents and brother at Union Cemetery in Leesburg.

A Memorial Service will be held locally on March 24 th at 1:00 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church, 154 Calhoun Ave, Destin, FL.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Destin or Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital or Sonic City Lions Club.
