Dennis M Brogan, age 79, died peacefully on Feb 28, 2024 with his wife, Christine, by his side. Dennis was born in New York, the only son of the late Frank and Catherine Brogan. He graduated from Fordham College, followed by graduate school at Ohio State University. He spent his career proudly serving his country in the USAF and later with the Department of Defense. His service took him to California, West Berlin, Munich, and England and finally to Washington DC. He is survived by his beloved wife, Christine (nee Clapperton), dear in-laws, nieces and nephews in England and Canada, cousins and good friends in the US.
Dennis was an avid reader across genres and with his great memory could quote 'chapter and verse'. He was generally known as a good storyteller and could lace everything with humor and wit. Dennis got his first dog by accident when he was 40, and this resulted in him developing a lifelong passion for dogs. He had 5 rescue dogs that enriched his life and brought him great joy. In his inimitable fashion, he became an expert on dog breeds, their ailments, and idiosyncrasies. His gentle, kind nature became more apparent through his interactions with his dogs.
Christine thanks the carers from The Lord is my Shepherd Care Agency, the Hospice staff from Capital Caring and the staff from Great Falls Assisted Living for treating Dennis with such kindness, compassion and dignity during his final months.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice at Capital Caring, www.capitalcaring.org; Friends of Homeless Animals, www.foha.org; or St. James' Episcopal Church, www.stjamesleesburg.org.
