IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dennis A.
Lee
December 23, 1960 – January 29, 2018
Dennis Angelo Lee (fondly known to many as Mr. Lee or Coach Lee), was born December 23, 1960 in Loudoun County, Virginia, son of the late Sylvester Cornelius Lee and Mary Alice Howard (Alestock). Dennis passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Leesburg on Monday, January 29, 2018.
Dennis is Virginia born and raised. He was baptized at The First Baptist Church of Sterling and educated in the Loudoun and Fairfax County Public School System. Dennis was a resident of Loudoun County and moved to Fairfax County (Reston) in the early 70s, and lived there for 42 years. He grew up in Foxmill (known today as Stonegate Village). In the summer of 1978 he met Ella (Sissy). They made Reston their home for 30 years and raised three beautiful children.
Dennis worked at some great companies and always had a story about each of his employers. His favorite job was D&E Trucking, where he was owner and operator. He would cruise the roads of Sterling hauling gravel from the local quarries, where he worked alongside both his and Ella's uncles. His 'CB handle' was the General Lee – very fitting!
If Dennis could tell his story it would begin something like this : "I ruled Reston – I was the 'leader' and I had my crew" (to the crew, you know who you are!). He would tell stories about how he and his crew knew every bike trail and back road in Reston – and they did. In his youth, Dennis was an avid sports enthusiast – he played baseball, basketball and football (quarterback). He was a competitor – always worked hard to be the best at his game; a character trait he 's passed along to his equally competitive children (who played every sport that their daddy played)! Dennis was an avid Redskins fan (in his youth he loved the Steelers – go figure)! But if you would ask him what his favorite team was, he would say the South Lakes Seahawks, the high school his kids attended. After playing sports so many years as a child, Dennis coached youth sports in Reston – basketball, football and softball. He coached his children's teams, and when they moved on to high school sports he continued coaching other children in the community . Dennis was the original 'sports junkie' (not those guys on 106.7)!
Dennis was an amazing person – period! He loved his family - he loved life . Even during the times when he was not feeling 100%, it didn't stop him from visiting family and friends, playing pool, horseshoes or just kicking back and talking. There was nothing he wouldn't do to help anyone. He loved having fun and enjoyed making people laugh! When family came to his home he had to be the life of the party, and the funniest – and let's not forget – he always got the first plate! He could always be counted on to help friends – move furniture, run errands, fix an engine on a car (a skill he learned from his Uncles). Dennis was always tinkering with cars and collecting stuff … yes, too much stuff!
Dennis is survived by his wife, Ella; their three awesome children, Takicha, Denise (Daniel) and Dennis Jr; two amazingly beautiful grandchildren, Mia and Jackson; two pups, Marlee and Bailey; three grandpups, Bambi, Denzel, and Harley; his brother, Gary Lee (Vay Paige); sister, Debra Ann Lee; his step-dad, Lawrence Howard; his brothers-in-law, Donald, Charles, Otis and Jimmy Johnson; his best friend and riding buddy, Jerry Lee Hogan; his aunts and uncles, Grace Every, Corinne Manfield, Dorothy Nickens, Nancy Waters, Winston Alestock, Donney Jackson, Henry Jackson, James Johnson Robert Johnson, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
