Obituary

Dianna Barger Ivey passed away on Friday, July 10, 2015. She was the eldest daughter of Grover Cleveland Barger, Jr. and Ollie Imogene Barger. She and her sister, Kim Barger Oberbrunner spent their youth near Covington, Virginia. Dianna graduated from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, with a B. A. in History. She married Richard Ivey on June 14th 1980.

Dianna was a long-time friend of Algonkian Elementary School in Sterling, Virginia. She served there as a PTA member for many years, and then joined the staff working full time as a Technology Assistant. She retired from teaching in 2010. Dianna and her husband Rich enjoyed their time in retirement and travelled all over the US and Europe.

Dianna loved history, especially Bible history. She was a member of the Christian Science Church in Leesburg, where over the course of 32 years she served as Board Member, Reader, Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher and pianist. Dianna loved entertaining, especially during the holidays. She was forever reading, travelling, learning new things, meeting people, and experiencing new places and foods. She was an adventurous cook, a loving mother, and a friend to everyone she met.

Dianna leaves behind her devoted husband of 35 years, Richard Ivey; her eldest daughter, Elisabeth, and son in law Jimmy, of Trappe, PA; her youngest daughter Kathryn of Reston, VA; her brother in law, Gary Oberbrunner, and her niece and nephew Anna-Astrid and Carl of Somerville, MA.

A memorial service to celebrate her life and joy will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Road NE, Leesburg, VA 20176.
