Donald Holtz, 83, of Leesburg Virginia died on  September 12, 2020. Born December 7, 1937 in Johnstown,  Pennsylvania, he was the first of five children to Oswald and Margaret Holtz.

He was preceded in death by his father, Oswald, mother, Margaret, his sister, Patricia, his mother-in-law, Helen, and his wife, Anita.  He is survived by his son, Martin,  daughter and son-in law  Stacey and Jacob Schmidt. He was the proud Grandfather of Olivia, Austin, and Emmet Schmidt. He also is survived by his brother and sister in- law Robert and Mary, brother and sister in- law Roy and Patty, and sister and brother in- law, Alice and John George, as well as brother in-law and sister in-law, Martin and Linda Bartic. Surviving him are nine nieces and nephews, Curtis George, Anissa George, Luke George, Brad Holtz, Joanie Schrecengost, Bonnie Emerick, Matt Bartic, Mark Bartic, and Nick Bartic.

In 1956 he graduated Franklin East Taylor High School. The day after graduation he began work at Bethlehem Steel but soon after volunteered for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. After serving his country he moved to the Metropolitan Washington DC area where he had a long career at Ferguson Enterprises. He retired in 1999.

Don was united in marriage on January 17, 1968 to Anita Louise Bartic.  They raised one daughter, Stacey, and one son, Martin.

Don was a "Height's Boy" from Johnstown where he acquired the values that shaped his life. Don was proud to be a veteran and to have served his country, and it's people which meant so much to him. He loved Penn State football and the Pittsburgh Steelers.  He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, camping with his family, vacations, and travel.  Don very much enjoyed reading, especially books on history.  He was a life long member of the Lutheran Faith and was a member of Our Savior's Way Lutheran Church.

Don volunteered as a  Master Gardner with the Virginia Cooperative Extension, and as a stream monitor for Save Our Streams, and was a member of the conservation group, the Izaak Walton League.  He also was an Adult Leader Trainer for the Blue Ridge District of the Boy Scouts of America, where he earned a Wood Badge.  Don formerly served on Council and was an Elder at his church, OSWLC.

Visitations will be at Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg, Virginia from  6 pm to 8 pm on September 18 and on September 19 at 10:00 am at Our Savior's Way Lutheran Church, 43115 Waxpool Road, Ashburn, Virginia 20148 . A Lutheran Service of Faith, Celebration, and Resurrection will  be held immediately after starting at 10:30 am. The burial will be at 1:30 at Ebenezer Cemetery 20421 Airmont Road, Bluemont, Va 20135.
