Donald MacEoin, 76, an Irish-born Vietnam war veteran, passed away in his Ashburn home on September 29, 2016. Born November 11, 1939 in Dublin, Ireland to Gary MacEoin and Josephine Delaney, Don lived in Trinidad and Tobago before immigrating to New York City in 1949. He attended high school in northern New Jersey and studied at Villanova University. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and graduated from Officer Candidate School, rising to the rank of Captain as a Navigator. Don flew C-130 cargo aircraft in the Vietnam war, and later flew RF-4C tactical reconnaissance aircraft while stationed in Europe. He later served as a navigator instructor and taught astronomy. Don enjoyed a successful career as a program and proposal manager for Electronic Data Systems and Computer Science Corporation. He has been a resident of Loudoun County for 25 years. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Brenda, his sister-in-law Barbara Conley and her husband Doug of Plymouth, Minnesota, and his mother-in-law Eva Harrah. He has four children: Gary MacEoin (and Marina) of El Paso, Texas; Mary MacEoin of Tucson, Arizona; Nancy MacEoin (and Chris) of Philadelphia; and Kristina Ulloa (and Gonzalo) of Coinjock, North Carolina. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Amanda (21), Evan (19), Annalise (16), Samantha (16), Nico (9), and Liam (4). He is survived by many cousins in Ireland and England. Don had a passion for cooking and traveled extensively in retirement to Kenya, Australia, Italy, Argentina, Antarctica, Ireland, all US 50 states, and more. He was an avid reader and always had a book at his side. He loved his monthly poker game with friends and relatives. Services will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at Lakes Community Center, 44078 Cheltenham Circle, Ashburn, Virginia 20147. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the LAWS, the Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter, 105 East Market Street, Leesburg, Virginia 20176; www.lcsj.org.
